Vienna day 1- Hofburg Palace

We arrived in Vienna Friday, December 30 and checked into our apartment to rent and then we were off to see the city...

Saint Stephen's Cathedral

For more information on Saint Stephen's Cathedral, you can click here.  We'll see some more pictures of this beautiful church later.:)

After lunch, we were off to the Hofburg palace.  Home of many Hapsburg rulers and some of the most famous: Maria Theresia and Franz Josef and the Empress Elizabeth.:)

We weren't allowed to take any pictures in the Imperial apartments, (which were spectacular by the way) so I think I went a little crazy with so many pictures of all the serving ware.  I really could not believe the amount and the sheer cost of all the serving ware for this palace and the royal family!!!

Elizabeth walking up the steps to the Imperial Apartments:)
Elizabeth was quite excited that one of the famous Empresses was named Elizabeth. Empress Elizabeth was the wife of Franz Josef I of Austria.  You can read more about the Empress Elizabeth here.  The palace has spectacular exhibits of the apartments the emperors lived in.  The kids loved the audio guided tours.

After a day of sightseeing it was time to go for dinner and an early night's sleep.  Sleeping on the train wreaks havoc on this 40 year old body!:)LOL!:)
